<\/strong><\/p>\n Abstract:<\/strong><\/p>\n This paper offers a new perspective on the issue of urban sustainability. Starting from a positive perspective on city life, it makes a typology of critical roles of the city that are to be considered with a view to urban sustainability. Next, it is argued that a sine qua non for a structured view on sustainable cities is the use of a more integrated perspective, as offered inter alia by cosmonomic philosophy. Then the paper argues that the use and choice of indicators in multi-criteria analysis for urban sustainability may usefully be based on this integrative methodology.
